Hum.. Replacing system files. Is it safe?

How do I install UNO Just for one user?

Can I apply UNO to a single application?

Must I repair permissions after install?

Where are my previous files?

Something bad happened: I can't boot to the UI!

After a Mac OS X combo update UNO is gone..

iTunes LCD frequency spectrum visualizer colors are not fixed..

How does it works?

UNO works in the "old skool" way, it themes Mac OS X in the "hardcore" way.

This means that, instead of leaving a process permanently running in the background waiting for your application to be launched and patching it (what can affect stability and performance), UNO runs once to install and once to uninstall, and works by actually replacing some graphic resources (after backing them up).

Does it affects system performance or stability?

No. No process is left runnig in the background. And UNO leaves the resources files with the correct permissions, owner and group.

Hum.. Replacing system files. Is it safe?

Crossing the street. Hum.. Is it safe?

It has its risks, we are replacing system files. But UNO sets the correct permissions for files, checks for OS version compatibility, iTunes version, processor architecture, and if something goes wrong you still have "guifix" to rescue you.

Also, introduced in version 1.5, UNO checks the integrity of the crucial files through  md5 and crc32 verification.

No common problems are known.

How do I install UNO Just for one user?

You can't. UNO resources are used system wide. With the exception of Mozilla applications.

Can I apply UNO to a single application?

No. UNO resources are used system wide. All applications uses the same resources.

Must I repair permissions after install?

No. UNO leaves the resources files with the correct permissions, owner and group.

Where are my previous files?

Your previous files can be found in /Library/Application Support/interacto.net/UNO/guifix/ and will be needed in order to "Restore from backup", and is vital for "guifix" functioning.

Something bad happened: I can't boot to the UI!

If something goes wrong with the installation, like not being able to get to the UI after reboot, you can Restore your GUI files from backup:
• Press "command + s" during boot to enter single user mode.
• Enter "guifix" (without quotes) at prompt.
• "guifix" will check your disks for errors, fix them if any, restore your GUI files[*] from backup and reboot.
_[*] mozilla apps users will need to manually delete the userChrome.css and toolbar.gif found at ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/*/chrome/ and at ~/Library/Thunderbird/*/chrome/ . Apps skins must be removed by UNO app.

After a Mac OS X combo update UNO is gone..

Mac OS X combo updates includes all updates available, this means that the resource file included in 10.4.4 update is replacing UNO's one.

No problem at all, simple reinstall UNO.

iTunes LCD frequency spectrum visualizer colors are not fixed..

If you used any "binary trimmer" application (those to remove the PPC or the intel portion of the binary), UNO will not patch your iTunes binary  and the LCD frequency spectrum visualizer colors won't be corrected.  UNO only recognize the original iTunes binary.

To workaround this install UNO before "trimming" iTunes.
